A one stop monitoring utility for many different kinds of network monitoring.
Pros: IsItUp Network Monitor allows for a number of different types of network monitoring. It has a server monitor, a website monitor, a port monitor and an email system monitor. It has no limitations on the number of devices that can be monitored at the same time, and continuously over any period of time. These devices include routers, LAN servers, websites, switches, email servers, and a user PC. Automated System tests can be conducted for a number of performance metrics and reports are generated for Uptime, average response time, and more. It runs as a service and so it consumes a minimum of system resources. A bunch of statistics are available for performance analysis.
As its name suggests its main function is to monitor whether all the required devices are still running (UP). This is done through pinging for TCP/IP devices, auto-reply emails for email servers, and HTTP requests for web servers. Notifications and alerts are sent when any one is found to be non-functional (down). Notifications and alerts are sent through paging and also via email.
Cons: The only limitation is the fact that the interface could have been better. As it stands it does take a certain amount of time to get used to it, and learn all the functions. Visual quality also leaves a bit to be desired. Mainly a tool for administrators.
Overall: 4 stars. Works fairly well. The interface is its only limitation – there is a learning curve.
